Ceramic Membranes

A ceramic membrane consists of a series of hollow tubes cast into a ceramic stick. The permeate travels from the inner tube through the ceramic to the outer surface. These membranes will handle some suspended solids.

Functional features include:

  • handle extreme pH and temperature
  • handle solvents
  • steam sterilisable
  • accepts higher permeate pressure
  • low amount of area per element
  • high capital/replacement cost
  • long life expectancy

GEA has a special relationship with Tami Industries, a supplier of ceramic membranes. The Isoflux membrane, one of the range of products offered by Tami, is manufactured using a patented process. This provides the membrane with unique characteristics, which offer advantages in certain processing applications.
