Wine, Brewing & Beverage
The beverage industry – whether it be juice, mixers, wine or beer has
developed rapidly in recent years, incorporating more and more automation and
technology into the processing of products.
The brewing industry has
long used the plate and frame ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis systems in
NZ. Through-out the world, the more efficient spiral wound membrane systems are
increasingly being considered and installed by brewing companies.
The
wine industry has seen the use of microfiltration becoming common place to
achieve clarification – replacing the diatomaceous earth filters. Cross-flow
filtration has a number of other applications utilising the full filtration
range inclusive of microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and
reverse osmosis to achieve:
- Clarification
- Juice concentration
- Cold stabilisation
- Alcohol Adjustment
- Pre-treatment to prevent ion exchange fouling
- Colour adjustment
- Haze removal
The juice (see typical products below) industry utilises cross-flow
filtration for a diverse range of juice production. The concentration and/or
clarification of juice often being the primary requirement, however colour and
sugar adjustment are other possible uses:
- Aloe Vera
- Grapefruit
- Orange
- Peach
- Pineapple
- Apple
- Pear
- Carrot
- Celery
- Tomato
- Cranberry
