Water Recovery and Effluent Treatment
Water and the environment are two resources that processing industries
interface with. Processing water is required to service the plant and the
effluent has to be disposed of into the environment in an acceptable manner.
Local authorities have to manage these resources on behalf of all the public
and can restrict the available amount of water for industries in specific
locations as well as set high discharge criteria on the effluent streams that
leave the processing plant. For some industries and companies, there may be a
cost associated with effluent discharge - as these costs increase, the business
profitability is affected.
The application of the various membrane
filtration technologies can enable industry to meets its social responsibility
as well as improve the overall profitability of the process. Membrane
filtration opportunities include:
- Recovery of product that can be reused within the process or sold as a
by-product with some value.
- Recovery of water from CIP streams for reuse for further cleaning or
wash-down duties.
