Ceramic Membranes
A ceramic membrane consists of a series of hollow tubes cast into a ceramic
stick. The permeate travels from the inner tube through the ceramic to the
outer surface. These membranes will handle some suspended solids.
Functional features include:
- handle extreme pH and temperature
- handle solvents
- steam sterilisable
- accepts higher permeate pressure
- low amount of area per element
- high capital/replacement cost
- long life expectancy
GEA has a special relationship with Tami Industries, a supplier of
ceramic membranes. The Isoflux membrane, one of the range of products offered
by Tami, is manufactured using a patented process. This provides the membrane
with unique characteristics, which offer advantages in certain processing
applications.
