Hollow fiber
A hollow fibre membrane consists of a bundle of polymeric straws with the
feed travelling though the straws and the permeate being collected from the
outer surface of each straw. These membranes will handle some solids and can be
back-flushed for cleaning purposes.
Functional features include:
- handles medium viscosity products
- low hold-up volume
- constructed for back-flushing
- accepts higher permeate pressure
- low amount of area per element
- medium capital and energy cost
- average replacement cost
- average life expectancy
